Broker-dealer is an individual or a company that buys and sells securities either for its own account or on behalf of customers. It is a financial term used by the US Securities and Exchange Commission in reference to stock brokerages, whose professional occupation is to deal securities on the stock exchange. Broker-dealers area of expertise varies from providing financial advice to investors, organizations and companies and supplying liquidity through market making activities to facilitating deal flow and trade of securities.
